The tragic scene unfolded early Sunday morning when a 26 year old Greenpoint woman on her way home was callously struck by a hit and run driver. The unfortunate incident occurred at the intersection of Meeker and Manhattan Avenues beneath the rumblings of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. The woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is considered in serious condition.

The police say the person responsible for the terrible accident was driving a dark four door sedan. Considering the amount of cars matching that description within the 11222 zip code alone, it looks like the 94th precinct has got a real hunt on their hands.

Sadly, this recent news comes on the heels of another similar incident which occurred only a day earlier in East New York. In this case, an SUV drove up on the sidewalk and smashed into two people. One of the victims, a 27 year old male, had both of his legs amputated as a result of the crash.

So folks, while your wandering home from work or simply stumbling out a bar on a Friday night after a few too many beers,  please  remain aware of your surroundings and always watch where you are crossing. Even though great strides have been made to  curb vehicular accidents on McGuiness Avenue and elsewhere around the hood,  reckless drivers are everywhere.

If you have any information about either incident, please contact NYPD CRIMESTOPPERS or 1-800-577-TIPS. Tips are anonymous.
