This Saturday, October 19th (2-6PM) Cato’s Army & Navy (654 Manhattan Ave) is celebrating the Fall/Winter season with a Swedish twist! Everyone is invited to enjoy free coffee by local cafe Konditori and Peter Pan pastries while learning about waxing garments and the latest fashion collection by outdoor equipment & clothing brand Fjällräven.
Waxing is a natural way to increase wind and water resistance to your garment. And if you already own a Fjällräven piece, you can get it waxed by Fjällräven reps for free!
Beloved by all Greenpointers, Cato’s Army & Navy have remained in business for over 44 years by consistently carrying only the highest quality workwear and outdoor gear and according to co-owner Marcin Rak, Fjällräven has been an important brand to continue this tradition.
Marcin says, “this company’s principles really resonated with us.” “They are a perfect fit for our community and the type of brand we wanted in our store.” He went on to say that, “People in our neighborhood always cared about each other and their community.” “Having a company that cares passionately for the environment just made sense to us.” In fact, Fjällräven is joining the United Nation’s Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action establishing itself as an industry leader in addressing climate change. As the weather gets cooler, a warm cup of joe in the morning becomes even more delightful. Luckily, us Greenpointers have plenty of choices when it comes to quality coffee. I stopped by ten neighborhood spots recently and spoke to patrons, baristas, and even a few coffee-obsessed (and surprisingly well spoken) pups about why they like their favorite coffee shops!
Our little neighborhood is home to a lot of cafes—from your quick go-to spot (that’s you, Cup) to your second-home-away-from home (thank you, Cafe Grumpy) to everything in between. If you’re a freelancer, however, some of the cafes are better for you than others because they consistently offer the essentials (like free WiFi, an empty seat, good coffee, and decent music). Some may have it all but come with baggage (like spotty WiFi, sparse seating, bad music, or lots of babies). And some don’t have anything to offer you (except for good coffee on your day off). So, where should you go? Check out this quick freelancers’ guide to see what fits your vibe. Continue reading →

A whole host of new cafes and restaurants are popping up on our fine, frosty streets and whilst some are still hanging their awnings and smoothing down the plasterwork, others have already flung open their doors to beckon us in.
