Brooklyn Barge Bar

There’s been a whole lot of comings and goings amongst Greenpoint’s bars and restaurants recently.  Here’s a round-up of a few changes that are on our radar…

Brooklyn Barge Bar  (3 Milton Street) – This novelty floating bar has been a long time in the making and it’s looking like they’ll miss the boat with the summer crowd if they don’t get things going soon. Time Out are throwing a ‘first look’ party  ($25 for unlimited beer and oysters) on the barge on August 26th, so it’s quite likely that this will be their opening night. Let’s hope they don’t have to cancel like they did with their 4th July celebrations. But, if they do, at least it means that Transmitter Park will stay a haven of tranquillity for a little longer.

Brooklyn Label (180 Franklin Street) – A sign in the window of this popular brunch spot says ‘closed for renovation’, along with a request to renew their sidewalk liquor license. However, it’s just been confirmed by the owners that the business is actually being sold and will be re-opening as something different in due course.  Continue reading

In January, the space next door to Coco 66 reopened under Manhattan restaurateur Michael Callahan.  The new restaurant, Coco (68 Greenpoint Ave), wowed us with a fresh and delicious dinner menu that included dishes such as Bourbon-Butter Grilled Oysters, a whopping great Double-Thick Pork Chop, and inventively prepared seasonal veg. The selection of late night bar food (served until 2am) also caught our eye with amazing Pickled Egg Sandwiches and $5 Cheeseburgers.

Now, nicely timed with the arrival of spring, they’ve started serving weekend brunch (10am-4pm), with a cracking menu devised by Head Chef Joe Capozzi (formerly of The Fat Radish) and consulting chef Julie Farias. Continue reading

New Joint Alert

According to the latest issue of Time Out NY a new restaurant is among us.

68 – Coco66 owner David Kelleran quietly opened this restaurant adjacent to his popular Greenpoint taproom. Look for eclectic dishes like calamari tempura with harissa mayo and panko-crusted scallops. 68 Greenpoint Ave between Franklin and West Sts, Greenpoint, Brooklyn (718-389-6868)

I wasn’t sure when this joint was gonna open, but it looks like I’ve got a new place to chow before a round of darts.

P.S. Happy Birthday Sandra!!
