Last Wednesday night a very special culinary collaboration took place on Humboldt Street. Hosted by Brooklyn Brewery, it was called Dinner Party No.1, and was special for three reasons:
1. The event took place at the brand new ‘Humboldt & Jackson’ (434 Humboldt St), an American Bar and Tasting Room just the other side of the BQE.
2. The evening involved a delicious 6-course meal using the wares of local producers and revolving around the unique fermented seasonings developed by the Kaizen Trading Company (KTC), the experimental culinary research lab founded by Momofuku.
In celebration of Fat Tuesday, The Habitat is hosting a beer tasting with Bayou Teche brewery from Louisiana. The brewery crafts beers specifically to complement Cajun/Creole dishes – so it will go perfectly with my favorite dish – a generously portioned Chicken and Andouille Gumbo served with a side of warm cornbread. Plus they will be serving a Stout paired with special house made ice cream!
A flight of four following beers ($14) will be served with complimentary food pairings:
Every year The Diamond (43 Franklin St) – the Greenpoint bar with the gondola in the yard – organizes a ski trip to Plattekill Mountain in upstate New York, followed by an Aprés Ski Party. This year the after party involves a Mac n’ Cheese competition, live ski lounge music and free drinking for skiers from 8-10pm!
Over some delicious mulled wine, I chatted with bar owner and beer genius Dave Pollack about the three most important things in his life (this weekend) – skiing, beer, and mac n’ cheese.
This adventurous and cheesy day is happening this Saturday 1/25/14. Skiing is 6am-7pm. After party starts at 8pm. If you want to get in on this ski trip or enter your mac n’ cheese into the competition, email Dave dave (at) thediamondbrooklyn (dot) com. Continue reading →
