If you want to see how North Brooklyn culture fares in a foreign land, head down to the Brooklyn Half-Marathon pre-party taking place this Wednesday in Brooklyn Heights Park from noon to 9 pm. The Williamsburg-based folk-pop band Oh Honey performs a free set at 8:45 pm, and food trucks and graffiti artists will be present.
Party sponsors are also offering $10 to anyone who shows up with a photo ID that has a Greenpoint address, because they want to amp up the event’s cool factor. Just kidding, no paid appearances for us.
Preceding Oh Honey will be Brooklyn-based band Great Caesar at 7:30 pm. DJ Ariella opens the show at 6:15 pm.
Smorgasburg regulars Takumi Taco and Chickpea & Olive will have trucks at the event, along with Toby’s Estate Coffee. There will be a booth where you can donate your used sneakers to Goodwill Industries, and an area where you can wolf samples from local restaurants featured on this list.
The Klughaus art gallery will have a few of its curated graffiti artists customizing racing apparel. For fun, you could always bring the Tyvek outfit from your last Devo whippet party for them to tag as your race day gear.
All events take place at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. If you are coming from work in Manhattan, you can take the 2 or 3 train to Clark Street, or the A/C to High Street. Biking from Greenpoint is relatively easy, too, because you can take the protected lanes on Kent Ave. and Flushing Ave. and then just duck into DUMBO to hit the park.
The most glam way to travel to the event would be on the East River Ferry. They have two to three ferries an hour heading to Brooklyn Bridge Park from India St. in Greenpoint and their two terminals in Williamsburg. The ferry schedule can be found here. The last ferry returning to Greenpoint departs from nearby Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park at 7:55 pm.
