Kickstarter Was Hacked

Kickstarter is scribbled onto on my TODO list because I was planning on writing an article on their new and what promises to be an amazing Greenpoint HQ, not because of the email I got this morning from Kickstarter titled, “Important Kickstarter Security Notice” (that’s never good).

Since many of you supported our Kickstarter Neon Documentary, it’s important I share this information and urge you to change your password ASAP.

Kickstarter wrote:

Hackers had sought and gained unauthorized access to some of our customers’ data… No credit card data of any kind was accessed by hackers. There is no evidence of unauthorized activity of any kind on your account … Accessed information included usernames, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords. Actual passwords were not revealed…We have since improved our security procedures and systems in numerous ways, and we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come.

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IF YOU HAVE A KICKSTARTER ACCOUNT. Many folks use the same password on multiple applications with the same usernames so change all passwords and make them really strong. The days of using your pets’ names are over!
