It’s always exciting to buy gifts for your loved ones this time of year, but in the spirit of the holiday season, we can also give a gift to a child in need. This year’s Big Brooklyn Toy Drive is happening at locations throughout Wiliamsburg, Greenpoint, and Dumbo, including Nitehawk, the McCarren Park Ice Rink, Rough Trade, Dandelion Wine, and many others.
The drive is collecting new, unwrapped toys or games for children, 14 and under. You can either drop off gifts to local participating stores, restaurants, and bars in the neighborhood, OR you can bring your toy (with your fine self) to the Toy Drive Party at Red Star Bar on 12/17.Â
Last year’s drive collected upwards of 1,500 toys that were distributed to local kids in need.
The party will include a raffle with great prizes from local businesses (all of the money raised will go directly to the purchase of additional toys), an open bar, snacks, and music. If you don’t come with a toy, you can donate $25 at the door, which will do straight to the toy fund as well.
If you’d like to donate a prize to the Big Brooklyn Holiday Toy Drive raffle or volunteer to hang posters, please contact info [at] greenpointchamber [dot] com.
“Nothing will be considered too big or too small,” Jeff Man, of Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce told us. “Every prize helps build the level of excitement, which is directly related to the number of raffle tickets sold. We welcome each and every donation.”
