Jerry and Aneta, the couple who own Cookie Road (94 Franklin St), a delicious coffee shop and bakery that specializes in adorably decorated cookies and french macarons, is opening a second location at 659 Manhattan Ave, where Valdiano was, the 2011 Pizza Tour Champion. Valdiano owner decided to retire (aka go out on a high note) and left the pizza oven in the space for Aneta to play with. I am really excited to see what she bakes inside.
News: The plan is the open in mid-September and the first location on Franklin St. will remain open.
In the bigger space they can expand to offer panini and more savory food and you can take a comfy seat and soon enjoy wine and beer when they get the license. This is great news because Manhattan Ave needs more healthy but laid back lunch options.
With their own sweat equity they transformed the new space, painted the drop ceiling a gorgeous dark purple and adorned the walls with artwork from friend and Polish artist Leder as well as Jerry’s artwork.
Aneta explained that the couple were art dealers before she ventured into baking and Jerry only started to “help out,” but now it is both their full time jobs. “I am not a baker!” Jerry said, “I am an artist!”
If you head to the back near the bathrooms check out Jerry’s poster artwork, which I think should be moved up front and center!
