The Greenpoint branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed beginning on Saturday June 5th and will not reopen until Tuesday September 7th in order to replace the roof.

Schedule for Work

The last day of service at Greenpoint is Friday, June 4, 2010. Greenpoint will temporarily close to the public starting on Saturday, June 5; we plan to reopen on or before Tuesday, September 7 at 10:00.

Scope of Work

v

The City’s Department of Design and Construction’s contractor will replace the deteriorated roof at Greenpoint with a new roof. As you may know, in the past BPL has been forced to temporarily close Greenpoint due to leaks and also cordon off sections of the interior space during heavy rains. In addition, during the closure the contractor will make minor repairs to the building’s façade, replace the dropped ceiling with news tiles (as the existing ceiling has been damaged by leaks) and upgrade the interior florescent lighting.

Interim Service

Starting Tuesday, June 8, through Tuesday, August 31, BPL will provide interim service from a Bookmobile at the Greenpoint library each Tuesday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. During the closure, library staff will continue outreach to neighborhood schools and community organizations; programs currently offered to children, young adults, seniors and other patrons at Greenpoint Library will be offered at other libraries in the community.

Library customers can also use the following libraries:
· Bushwick Library, 340 Bushwick Avenue, (718) 602-1348
· Leonard Library, 81 Devoe Street; (718) 486-3365
· Williamsburgh Library, 240 Division Avenue; (718) 302-3485
