Start the weekend a little early today with the opening of Perk Street Lounge at the revolving 303GRAND storefront. A 3-week free lounge with free coffee & free wi-fi and 9 free special events. That’s a lot of free.

Tonight and this weekend is your last chance to check out the 16 luxury condos going up on the auction block next Wednesday 11/11. Friday night check out The Second Annual Greenpoint Film Festival at Cafe Grumpy, celebrating “sweater movies” and the installation of their roastery. Fridays in Fall at 7:30pm. This Friday’s movie is Coraline.


Brooklyn Art Studios (276 Greenpoint Ave) is having an Open Studio this weekend where you can check out various artists working in a wide range of media from painting to photography to film-making and more.

This Saturday afternoon is the Greenpoint Beer Festival at Red Star we mentioned last week.

Red Star Bar will be hosting the first annual “Greenpoint Beer Festival” set to kick-off this Friday November 7, 2009 at 1:00pm.

Featuring over 20 craft and microbrews attendees will enjoy a variety of specialty brews from over 15 local, national, and international breweries including Blue Point, Sierra, Smuttynose, Lagunitas, Brooklyn’s own Kelso and Sixpoint, Brooklyn Brewery’s brewmaster reserve, and for the first time in the United States, Latis’s Steenbrugge Tripel. Attendees can also sample up to six of these unique and great beers for only $20!

Beer educators on site, tasty grub from Executive Chef John Manzo’s kitchen, and amazing live music all day, with a special performance by Brooklyn’s own Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer, John Forté.

Also on Saturday afternoon is the First Annual Bar-Athalon at Second Chance Saloon (659 Grand Street). Starting at 3pm.

Teams of up to four people will compete in ten bar challenges:

2. Domestic Whiskey
3. Beer Bong
4. Waft (ID liquors by smell)
5. Hot Dog Eating Contest
6. Beer Can Stacking
7. Beer Can Free Throw
8. Pool
9. Shot Put
10. Beer Slide

Prizes will be issued for First, Second and Third place. Bring your friends to cheer you on. Drinks are inexpensive and hotdogs will be served through the end of the competition to all.

There is a $40 entrance fee to cover the cost of food and drink consumed in the course of the competition. There is a limit of 30 teams allowed. Sign up by bringing the following in person to the Second Chance Saloon (2pm – 4am daily except Sundays when they are open at 1pm for football):
