Keg & Lantern

On Sunday, Kea and I got a chance to catch up and check out the fairly new place Keg & Lantern on Nassau Avenue. I don’t get down that part of Greenpoint that often anymore and the fact that me and Kea haven’t actually seen each other in over a year was bordering on criminal. But enough of the pleasantries, on to the joint.

Keg & Lantern is a great little Irish-y bar that surprises you with a perfect place to grab brunch, get a cocktail or watch the game. Owned by husband & wife team of Lindsey & Kieran, it has a similar vibe to Red Star on the other end of Greenpoint with an upscale sports bar feel, but cozier. Kea was telling me she’d been there before and noticed they offered the soccer players in McCarren Park 2 for 1 specials on nights they played which I thought was great. It’s so close to the park and yet totally doesn’t have that hipster-y feel that most of the joints on the other side have going on. Keg & Lantern just felt like a great bar to just “hang”, which I loved.

It was prime time brunch time and they had your basic brunch fare available, omelets, french toast, etc. along with a surprising traditional Irish breakfast complete with black and white pudding.

I started off with a mimosa, Kea with a (virgin!) bloody mary and coffee. She had an omelet and I went with the Keg & Lantern burger. Both hit the spot. We finished off with cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert. We lingered, talked and enjoyed the company of Lindsey who was tending bar.

The inside has a real comfy cozy feel to it. A good sized bar, well stocked with a VERY nice variety of draft beer. Happy Hour is all day from 11AM until 7PM and offers $4 beer, wine, and well liqour. Sit indoors or out!

Flat screen tvs, ample tables and an open window front that lets you catch the passers by if the game is not exactly what you feel like watching. Also, they serve food until 2am which in Greenpoint is pretty hard to find.

Keg & Lantern has a World Series Food and Drink Special – Any Night the Yankees play they’ll be showing it on their large screen tv’s and offering 2 for 1 appetizers and $3 dollar Bud and Budlights. As a bonus, you should stop by this Friday October 30th to say hi to Lindsey & Kieran and for the free PBR from 7-8pm and $4 drafts and car bombs!
