Start the weekend a little early today to celebrate Barcade‘s 5th Anniversary with a Barbeque. Starting at 2pm. On a Thursday. Yeah it surely must be great for those folks without a job… But maybe if you rush over right after work you can get a hot dog and brew.
Starting this Saturday the McCarren Park Greenmarket moves to their new location just across the field at Union Ave. between N. 12th St. and Driggs Ave. And they’re having a special Grand Re-Opening at the inauguration of the new location to celebrate the dedicated farmers and loyal customers with lively music, seasonal food, hourly raffles, and fun family activities.
Due to reseeding in the northwest corner of McCarren Park, our neighborhood Greenmarket will be permanently relocating. Still located in McCarren Park, nestled under the trees between the dog run and track, you will find the same great farmers and same great food. This market will continue to run every Saturday, 8am-4pm, year-round, with a mouth watering selection local fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meat and poultry, wild-caught fish, fresh cut flowers, honey, baked goods, artisanal cheese, dairy and more!
After a Saturday off, the Greenpoint Food Market is on again this week featuring a variety of homemade goods. And as always they welcome new vendors! Check out their blog for a list of some of the vendors you’ll find this week.
I hadn’t heard of Upscale Lighting before last week when I noticed they were a sponsor for the McCarren Tennis fundraiser and now I get the answer with their Light-Up Brooklyn lighting concept shop opening this weekend. And the opening will be marked with an Oktoberfest block party celebration from 2-8pm on Saturday, October 17th. The opening block party will feature Oktoberfest-inspired food by Urban Rustic and complimentary German beer.
LIGHT UP BROOKLYN is located at 174 N11 Street between Bedford and Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and will be open daily Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM and Saturday from 11AM-5PM from October 17th. The opening celebration is October 17th from 2pm-8pm rain or shine.
As we mentioned earlier this month, this Saturday is also Enid’s 7th Annual Apple Pie Bake-Off! All pies are due between 4-4:45pm and there are fabulous prizes for those winners. Then a feast of homemade appley pie goodness for everyone else afterwards.
This Sunday is the SchoolFest from 11am-3pm at 325 Bushwick Avenue, home to PS 147 and The Brooklyn Latin School. This is a great opportunity for all parents and students to get information for every aspect of a child’s schooling. Seriously, if you have kids you should check this out.
SCHOOLFEST IS THE ULTIMATE OPEN HOUSE for Greenpoint, Williamsburg and now, Bushwick parents: Schools, day care centers, and other service providers for our children in these neighborhoods, all at a single venue. We have also added a college component, with the firm conviction that parents can never start too early to consider college as a viable future outcome for their children. We are delighted to announce that we have the following colleges participating: All 17 CUNY schools, Columbia, NYU, all SUNY schools, St. Joseph’s College and Yale! Including all the CUNY and SUNY schools, we have almost 100 institutions participating!
Brooklyn For Peace, in its 25th year of community activism and organizing for peace and justice, will hold a benefit concert at Public Assembly on Sunday October 18th 2009. There will be a $10 dollar cover charge to raise funds for Brooklyn For Peace and all guests must be 21 and older.
