Last week before I left town for my birthday I sent an email out to my Greenpointer girls Kea, GG, Amanda and Krissy to get a little bit of a status report on where everyone was with their lives and who wanted to stay on and who just didn’t have the time to contribute anymore. I love these girls and in a perfect world we’d all have hours upon hours to devote to Greenpoint news and gossip, but alas we do not. And so GG, Krissy and Amanda have taken a sabbatical so to say.
Of course GG is my sister and so anytime she comes across anything she emails me anyway so she’s not really gone… And Amanda and Krissy have both said they’d love to contribute guest posts when they can so I’m happy that there will be an occasional Pic-Me and more from these two ladies. And of course all of their previous posts will remain on the site. Fab!
And to top it off, Kea has decided to stay on and up her contributions, which is awesome because I love her to pieces.
All in all, I’m pretty glad that I have made new friends and that these girls who have contributed to Greenpointers over the last year really loved doing it and just found that time and life have gotten in the way. It’s the same reasons why I looked for additional writers to begin with. I work full time and when I say work, I mean work. Gone are my days of idle hands from 9-5pm. So Greenpointers suffers with only a handful of posts a week, if that. Which brings me to the second point of this post…
It’s another Open Call for Greenpointers!
Any of you out there want to write for Greenpointers?
Last time around I had no idea what I wanted but I wound up getting three people that worked great. Amanda had a great idea with Pic-Me, Krissy and Kea had similar senses of humor to mine and it just wound up being that I loved their writing and I’m very fond of them in person, too. I don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough again, but I’m hoping so.
I’m looking for three new writers. Male or female, no writing or blogging experience is really necessary but it would be great if you were a fast learner. If you’ve already got your own blog and are looking to contribute somewhere else to get some more writing under your belt, that’s great, too.
Obviously we write about Greenpoint here. I dabble in Williamsburg as well, but mostly sticking to the Northside. Occasionally we all go outside the neighborhood, but for the most part it’s Greenpoint only so you kind of have to live here.
I’d love someone from the McGolrick Park side of the ‘point. I grew up on that side but I never find myself over there anymore and I’d really like to be able to rep my hood better in that neck of the woods.
A photo blogger. I adore photography, always have. My father was very much into it when I was younger and I love taking pictures myself, but again, I just never find myself doing it. If you’re the type who takes your camera everywhere you go and you’re a Flickr freak, I’d love to have you post your Greenpoint shots here.
A reviewer type. Whether you like to go to local shows, dine in local restaurants or just enjoy rating everything you do, that’s always welcome. I don’t always get a chance to check out every new place that opens but if you’re a social butterfly who’s always looking for the newest, coolest thing – I’d love to have you.
I’m very open to ideas, too. If you have a recurring theme or ‘thing’ you’d like to do, try me! As long as it’s Greenpoint related, I’m pretty much open to anything.
My only pre-requisites are you *have* to have a sense of humor and you must know how to spell and punctuate. I’d like potential writers to commit to at least one post a week, more often would be even better. Other than that, it’s an open call to do whatever.
So what do YOU get out of this gig? No, you don’t get paid, but there are the rare occasional benefits. Sometimes I get invited to things and I always share. And there was that one time it helped me get laid… but other than that it’s not a very fulfilling job.
Email me at greenpointers (at) gmail (dot) com if you’re interested and I’ll see what kind of response I get. I pretty much asked everyone who was interested last time to write me an introductory post so I could see what their style was. It worked out great so that’s how I’m going to do it this time. So if you want to toss your hat in the ring email me a post or if you have any questions feel free to do so as well.
Thanks all!
