I received a comment from a reader this week on one of my posts from back in October on that new restaurant at the corner of Kent & Franklin.
The nice Korean man is the owner. The restaurant will be called “The River Barrel”. My husband, also a Greenpointer, is the new chef working hard at the New American menu that will hopefully be debuting in the next 2 weeks! Full Bar and late night menu to boot!
A couple of quick shots I took in October of the interior with the owners consent:
Very exciting stuff to hear that a local chef will be taking the reins on this new joint. I’m thrilled to see what’s in store. The work being done on the place seems top notch, the people nice and it will be great having another dining option in the neighborhood. Especially in the winter when one isn’t in the mood to troop over to BBurg but still needs to get out of the house.
The name thing is confusing since I was under the impression it was called River Barrel but their newly added signage indicates River Ballel. I guess we’ll find out soon enough! Thanks J.
thanks Justine for blogging about our new place River Barrel. I hope everyone has gotten a chance to see that the new sign, with the proper spelling of the restaurant and the phone number is up and ready to go for opening day tomorrow! We will be open for brunch at 10am and hope everyone in the neighborhood joins us to celebrate the new year in a brand new restaurant. Last night we had a small get together to celebrate Mrs. Kim, one the owners birthday, and many local business owners joined us; David and Bret of Wine Cellar Sorbets, Mary and Mark of Kill Devil Hill, Michele of Dalaga, Tommy and Roy of Alter, among others; I will be adding the pictures to our new facebook page later tonight. Thanks to all the locals who have been showing support to us in this new endeavor, including yourself, we hope to see everyone tomorrow on opening day!
Speaking of closing restaurants, does anyone know what is happening with Habitat? They’ve been closed a few days now. When I called them, there was no explanation on the answering machine.
Habitat was just closed this weekend for vacation – they’ll be back!
