Well according to an email I received this morning, Town Square has picked up the ball on the Manhattan Avenue Christmas Lights.
Dear Town Square members,
As 2008 draws to a close, Town Square has taken on one last project: holiday lights along Manhattan Avenue. Due to unexpected circumstances, this is a last minute but worthy endeavor. We felt strongly that festive lights represent an important aspect of the holiday season: they will lift our spirits and give us hope for the upcoming year.
Green garlands and sparkling white lights will be wrapped around the street light poles. We are thrilled to say that we will be using LED lights this year, which will enable us to save almost 90% in energy costs compared to the older incandescent lights. We hope to have the lights up later this week and will enjoy them all the way through early February.
If you would like to help solicit funds or make a donation to defray the cost, we would truly appreciate it. Any amount will be welcomed. Town Square is a 501(c)(3), so your generosity will be tax deductible. You can contact us at 718.609.1090 or send a check made out to “Town Square” to 102 Oak Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222.
It’s great that there will some resemblance of holiday on the avenue. From what I hear it’s a tough (and expensive) job to take on but I am glad to hear that someone is taking it on.
Me too! I love the festive lights along Manhattan Ave. They were up when I first moved in 3 years ago (the week between Christmas and New Year’s), so it reminds me of my first days here. I think I will send them a few bucks 🙂
