Fashion Indie Week in Brooklyn:
25 Independent Designers Set to Showcase During Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn
For anyone who has ever looked at the Brooklyn Bridge and thought, “That would make a killer runway.” your day has come…
July 30th, 2008, Brooklyn, NY- Fashion Indie Media is proud to announce the premier launch of Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn, September 3rd – 10th, a week-long celebration of some of the budding borough’s finest up & coming designers.
Beginning days before Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and ending just before the final model hits the runways of Bryant Park, Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn will bring together 25 of the cities most promising designers for a series of runway shows, in-store events, trunk shows, after-parties, and sales that will span across popular nabes like Williamsburg, DUMBO, and Cobble Hill.
“We have met hundreds of amazing Brooklyn-based designers who just don’t get the recognition they deserve. It has always been a goal of Fashion Indie Media to create opportunities for these designers to get in front of our readership,” says Internet rogue and Fashion Indie President Daniel Saynt.
Designers on the roster include Fashion Indie favorites like Love Brigade, Zulema Griffin, Harriet’s Alter Ego, Hillary Flowers, New York Couture, San & Soni, Brooklyn Royalty and Sheila Frank.
“There is more to New York than just Manhattan and we feel that Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn is the missing puzzle piece to IMG’s Fashion Week,” says CEO Busie Matsiko.
Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn has partnered with popular online designations like Unscene.com, FashionIndie.com, SwoonMagazine.com, and over 35 other online fashion magazines. The influx of web activity has already caught the eye of many sponsors who have longed to reach a fashion-focused customer during fashion week. Smart Car, GURU Energy Drink, Unscene and Berkeley College are already on board to sponsor the week of activity.

So the idea of a sort of fashion week of our own is pretty exciting. It’s sorta like our own little Project Runway. So far I spied a couple of Williamsburg based designers in the mix such as Brooklyn Royalty, Barens & Belle and Steel Couture.
There will be fashion shows and events going on all over Brooklyn, but me and the Greenpointers gals are going to try and check out those Billyburg events this September.
