This years 4th of July is on a Friday and that means a 3 day weekend! Here’s some local things going on in the ‘hood both before and after the fireworks.
Ted Stanke emailed us this little nugget: If you haven’t got plans for Friday and will be in Brooklyn, come to the Greenpoint Gallery where we’ll be watching the fireworks from the roof with midtown Manhattan looming behind. It’s a BYO situation, including things to grill, and there will be live music following the show. Door opens at 7.
Greenpoint Gallery is located at 390 McGuinness Blvd. in Brooklyn, between Dupont and Clay Streets, near the entrance to the Pulaski Bridge. Trains are the G (Greenpoint ave) and the 7 (vernon-jackson). Buses are the B61 and B43.

The Habitat says to come down and join them on the Fourth of July after the fireworks bonanza. They’re offering $3 bottled beers and promise to get you drunk in honor of our great country!

From Dave & Alex at The Diamond Bar – Don’t forget… we are the prime location for beer drinking before and after the fireworks on Friday. Walk one block to the water and you’ll have the best view in the city! And while you’re there wish them a Happy Birthday – The Diamond turns one today and they’re having an open bar tonight only (7/2/08) from 7:00-8:30pm (draft & wine)!

Also, there’s a punk band show at Red Star on the 4th, including one of my readers fiance’s band The Subpar Brakers.
Here’s the full lineup (starting at 9pm)
-Jon “the steel mill” Burlock
–Subpar Brakers
-Love and Mayhem
–NRL
-The Deep

And finally, the peeps over at Brooklyn Based have some additional things to do around Brooklyn if you’re so inclined to leave the best nabe to see the ‘works.
Great suggestions. Thanks, lady!
I know Brooklyn Label is doing brunch on Friday as well, good way to start the holiday weekend off right!
