An awesome reader tipped me off that Milton St is covered in dirt for a movie shoot so I stopped by on my way to the office. I know some of us feel inconvenienced by film shoots in Greenpoint, but this one is way cool. Not sure about you but I’m a total sucker for period pieces and people are walking around like it’s 1906 and covered in crazy head wounds and dressing.

Using “D” the new Greenpoint mascot as cute bait to talk to one of the crew members, I found out they are filming a new mini-series called The Knick about a Harlem Hospital from the turn of the century and directed by Steven Soderbergh. According to IMDB it’s coming out in 2014 and is described as “a look at the professional and personal lives of the staff at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital during the early part of the twentieth century.

Greenpoint Reformed Church’s facade has been renamed Minetta Negro Infirmary and the horses arrived as I was passing through to pull the old buggies lined up on the street.

If you have a chance today, go check out what Milton St may have looked like over 100 years ago – minus the catering tents and movie lights. I must note, all the crew was very friendly and apologetic because they were taking up the whole sidewalk.
