Recipes Gone Wild: Yana Gilbuena’s Sinuglaw

Spring meditation exercise: Close your eyes. Picture yourself clothed in billowing white linen, ocean waves spanning before you, skin kissed by rays of golden sunlight. One hand holds a frosty piña colada, the other a frivolous periodical. You gently rake your outstretched toes through the warm, white sand. Ahhhhhhh, Key West. Wish you were here, my friends… SMACK! Yeah, I slapped you. Snap out of it! A) You’re still in freezing-cold New York and B) since you’re still in the city, I’m guessing you don’t have time to meditate. But one lucky Greenpointer, Yana Gilbuena, of the Salo Project, has escaped frigid NYC and is in that crazy city of Key West, kicking off her 50 states/50 dinners series tonight! Dine for a Cause: A Filipino Pop-Up Dinner in Greenpoint

In the horrifying aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan that struck the Philippines recently, local resident and chef extraordinaire Yana Guilbuena will be hosting a benefit dinner, SALO Labing-Isa, in Greenpoint next week to raise urgently needed funds for victims of the disaster.

On Monday, November 25th at 6pm, Yana will be serving an incredible five-course Filipino dinner at Sindicato de Cocineros on Nassau Ave. The meal will feature dishes from islands affected by the typhoon: Cebu, Panay, Negros, Leyte and Masbate. In keeping with other SALO dinners, the meal will be served ‘Kamayan’ style, a.k.a sans utensils. Continue reading

Sunday Supper #6: SALO – A Filipino Feast at Domestic Construction (6/2) – SOLD OUT

It’s June and we are heading outdoors for Sunday Supper #6, which will take place on June 2, 2013 from 7-9pm at Domestic Construction (218 India St).

We are very excited to have one of our all time favorite people Yana Guilbuena as our chef, preparing a Filipino Feast as part of her own SALO dining series.

Everything will be served on banana leaves! (No stupid plates or forks!)

Plus Brooklyn Gin is generously providing the cocktails.

And we couldn’t think of a better outdoor space for an early summer dinner than Domestic Construction!

You won’t get a meal like this anywhere!
