A white house on the corner of Lorimer Street and Norman Avenue in Greenpoint allows passersby to take selfies by means of a mirror window.
Instagram user @greenpointglass‘s feed is filling up with moments of everyday people capturing themselves by standing in front of a green, iron gate—and all for free. Since the first selfie posted on May 4th, more than 60 images have joined the feed. It’s Instagram fun at its best. Continue reading →
A reader sent in this photo of a car on Freeman St in Greenpoint with a license plate that reads “DiHpster.” I doubt it’s the “real” Die Hipster; he actually isn’t that dumb as to call himself out to NYC. This is just sad.
These doors may be shut–but there are plenty that are wide open! Photo courtesy of 3rdward.com.
3rd Ward may have had its faults (more of them than we imagined, it seems), but there was something deeply inspiring about a huge workspace and resource center designed especially for Brooklyn’s many talented creators, and we’d be lying if we told you its presence won’t be missed. However, in the wake of the spot’s closure, we’ve found ourselves reminded time and again that 3rd Ward wasn’t the only game in town–so many of our friends and neighbors have other studios, class centers, coworking quarters and event spaces with their own amazing offerings. Bushwick Daily and Greenpointers reached out to some of our favorite such institutions, and it’s with great pride that we present our readers with our official guide to ten of this borough’s greatest places to take your creativity when making is your job. Take a look through–you can thank us when you get settled in at a place that hooks it up and makes it happen!
Do we all agree that spring sucks this year? Those electric blue skies, humping brown birds, bursting daffodils and even blooming cherry blossoms – but the damn cold won’t quit! Spring, stop sleeping in and get up and go to work! What a lazy season.

This week’s portrait revived my love for photography. I do it everyday, like a copying machine, product after product. I am happy as long as my eye is in the viewfinder, but when I take a great portrait, an honest and beautiful portrait, something happens, a new connection is made, it’s a breakthrough. Happy brain hormones flow. That said, it has all to do with my subject.
It wasn’t hard with Jessica Wertz, who is unapologetically badass, drinking a pint of Guinness, rocking a gold tooth, has a German shepherd side-kick, and is drop-dead gorgeous. And she owns on of the coolest bars in Greenpoint – No Name Bar. Enough said. But I have more…
I know you’re asking- what happened to the food at No Name Bar? I know this because I get emails and tweets about this all the time! Good thing I have been stalking the bar weekly asking the same question.
Cat’s out of the bag – a home-style Korean menu, inspired by Jessica’s mother’s cooking will debut on April 1st. That’s this Monday! This isn’t a joke.
For the disorganized at heart, Instagram is a great way to organize photos as sets. Our cat has the cutest little feet and sits on the radiator, so I tag each shot #radiatorpaws and can view them as a set. Instagram buddies have also been catching their feline roommates on the radiator and doing the same with their photos, so we are building an obscure Brooklyn cat photo library.
You can even create sets with friends. When Jon and I recently visited Florida we gave a unique hashtag #jenjongainesville2012 to each photo and asked friends we visited to use the tag. Tonight, we are heading to a wedding and the bride and groom cleverly have asked all guests to tag photos from their wedding with a unique hash tag. I bet you they will enjoy these photos as much as the professional shots they receive in 3 months.
Instagram just rules! Remember to follow @greenpointers and tag #greenpointers for any Greenpoint related photos you want to appear on Sunday Snaps.
