Here is a little teaser we made to give you an idea of how AWESOME our Greenpointers Neon Sign documentary will be! If you want to see the full documentary then please make a donation in any amount to our fundraiser – so you can be a part of this awesome project. We will be forever grateful – thanks in advance… NEON!
We have less than 2 weeks left and are halfway there! Learn more about our project on Kickstarter.
On Sunday November 17, 2013 from 3-5pm at EAT Greenpoint – weeks before we stuff our faces with turkey for Thanksgiving – we are having our Annual Soup Bowl Fundraiser to raise money for our very own Greenpoint Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen which serves 1000s of hungry Greenpointers on a weekly basis.
We have stickers, magnet, tote bags and tee shirts with this cool neon logo… (Dog not included). We are also sending out Thank You postcards with an original photo from the film, signed by the creators of the documentary – Miguel A. Rodriguez and myself.
We are excited to host exclusive screenings of the documentary and are having a “Lighting Party” at Robbie Ingui’s Neon Shop in Ridgewood. That will be a crazy party and I am making rice balls…
The BEST prize, with only 2 spots left is a 3 Hour Neon Sign Making Workshop with Robbie at his shop!
Thanks in advance for all the support. We cannot wait to make this documentary!
It all started when we realized that our sign sucks…
We decided to get a badass NEON sign, which we can take to all of our events and markets, a sign that reflects who we are and what we believe in – local MADE IN NYC craftsmanship – and of course document the process from start to finish with the direction of the talented Miguel A. Rodriguez (my best friend in the entire world!)
Our Neon Sign Documentary will star Robbie Ingui of Artistic Neon, a 2nd generation Neon Sign Maker. This guy is super talented, hilarious and has thee best NY accent ever! Not only will we film him making our sign and teaching us about the process, but we will also interview his father (in upstate NY) and Thomas Rinaldi, who wrote the amazing book New York Neon to learn about the history of Neon Sign Making and how it has created a unique visual landscape here for the past 100 years.
This Sunday, a number of major streets in Greenpoint will be closed down to traffic to allow for the annual “Get to the ‘Point”5K run to take place. Now in its 21st year, GTTP is a fundraiser organized by the good people at St. Stan’s church over on Driggs helps to provide for an education to over 250 children each year through their Catholic academy. The cost is only $20 in advance of race day ($25 day of) and you get a t-shirt that you will probably never wear again, unless it’s to the track at McCarren. Continue reading →

Duke Riley’s Project Manager Kitty Joe, an awesome Greenpointer, wrote in to let us know about this charity that her niece Allyson Ahlstrom started in 2011 when she was 14. Allyson runs a boutique in Windsor, California that welcomes teens in foster care and cases of extreme poverty to ‘shop’ for free in an upscale boutique. The project started out simply to satisfy 10 hours of required community service through her school. After graduating from high school in May, she outfitted a 62′ trailer as a mobile boutique and is currently on the third leg of her 48 state tour of the country, making daily stops in cities to distribute clothing to deserving teens recommended by social agencies.
