The first Brooklyn Craft Camp is coming to Greenpoint on March 16th. This one-day event will bring skilled crafters and those seeking to learn a craft together in a playful environment that includes breakfast from Greenpoint’s own Peter Pan donuts, a talk by Jay McCarroll (winner of Project Runway Season 1) + lunch: sourced locally & prepared by a Greenpoint chef and a DJ.
Craft Camp registration includes 4 -90 minute sessions such as knitting, croqueting, terrarium building, nail art and printmaking and caters to all levels of skill. Participants will learn a new craft each session and leave with a treasure of their own making. The day convenes with a cocktail hour and as an added bonus attendees will walk away with a goodie bag stuffed to the gills with craft supplies, magazines and more.
Created by Greenpoint local & lifetime DIY-er Brett Bara, the Craft Camp promises fun and camaraderie for those who tinker and those who just want to learn something new. When asked why Greenpoint, Ms. Bara said in addition to living here, Greenpoint and Williamsburg really capture the creative spirit of Brooklyn. It’s home to many artisans and craft folk and it felt like the perfect place to bring them all together. She was inspired by taking part in other events such as the Alt Summit where crafting was woven into the events themselves. Ms. Bara wants to bring people together people who want to learn a craft with people who are skilled, get them offline and in one room to get creative.

Brooklyn is a highly creative and crafty hub for many gals and guys. New businesses are constantly opening. Sew Moni is no exception! This super cute new shop has everything you need for supplies, ideas and crafting lessons of the sewing persuasion. Sew Moni’s Monica Briones (owner and founder) and Katie Mann (managing partner) know what it takes for business to meet creativity. I was able to visit the shop, and Monica provided me with a wealth of information as to what this new hot spot is all about.
