The contemporary Brooklynite’s diet (I’m looking at you!) which consists of going out and enjoying overly indulgent bacon infused everything (even cocktails) can leave us all feeling sluggish, unwell and not ourselves. Sound familiar? Not to mention it may put us at risk for disease down the line.
For the price it costs to go out to a fancy (heavy) and expensive dinner once, why not take a course (which includes 4 informative & hands-on classes) and learn to cook for your health!
It’s time to get ready for Spring (we promise it will eventually come and it will be glorious!) Spruce up your dark and tiny apartment with a bright and happy living terrarium. And if you suck at plants, don’t worry terrariums are super easy NOT to kill. Continue reading →

These doors may be shut–but there are plenty that are wide open! Photo courtesy of 3rdward.com.
3rd Ward may have had its faults (more of them than we imagined, it seems), but there was something deeply inspiring about a huge workspace and resource center designed especially for Brooklyn’s many talented creators, and we’d be lying if we told you its presence won’t be missed. However, in the wake of the spot’s closure, we’ve found ourselves reminded time and again that 3rd Ward wasn’t the only game in town–so many of our friends and neighbors have other studios, class centers, coworking quarters and event spaces with their own amazing offerings. Bushwick Daily and Greenpointers reached out to some of our favorite such institutions, and it’s with great pride that we present our readers with our official guide to ten of this borough’s greatest places to take your creativity when making is your job. Take a look through–you can thank us when you get settled in at a place that hooks it up and makes it happen!
When I met with Brooklyn Crafting Queen Brett Bara in her newly occupied sub-level HQ in Greenpoint Ave’s Pencil Factory studios, the space was empty and Brett was diligently working on her laptop, planning away, at a folding table near the space’s generous wall of windows. Despite its lack of stuff, the large venue was filled with Brett’s enthusiastic energy in anticipation of her soon to debut Brooklyn Craft Company. Continue reading →

The first Brooklyn Craft Camp is coming to Greenpoint on March 16th. This one-day event will bring skilled crafters and those seeking to learn a craft together in a playful environment that includes breakfast from Greenpoint’s own Peter Pan donuts, a talk by Jay McCarroll (winner of Project Runway Season 1) + lunch: sourced locally & prepared by a Greenpoint chef and a DJ.
Craft Camp registration includes 4 -90 minute sessions such as knitting, croqueting, terrarium building, nail art and printmaking and caters to all levels of skill. Participants will learn a new craft each session and leave with a treasure of their own making. The day convenes with a cocktail hour and as an added bonus attendees will walk away with a goodie bag stuffed to the gills with craft supplies, magazines and more.
Created by Greenpoint local & lifetime DIY-er Brett Bara, the Craft Camp promises fun and camaraderie for those who tinker and those who just want to learn something new. When asked why Greenpoint, Ms. Bara said in addition to living here, Greenpoint and Williamsburg really capture the creative spirit of Brooklyn. It’s home to many artisans and craft folk and it felt like the perfect place to bring them all together. She was inspired by taking part in other events such as the Alt Summit where crafting was woven into the events themselves. Ms. Bara wants to bring people together people who want to learn a craft with people who are skilled, get them offline and in one room to get creative.
