Get Yo’ Art On: Greenpoint Open Studios is This Weekend!

Greenpoint Open Studios (GOS) kicks off tonight and goes all weekend (April 29-May 1), celebrating Greenpoint’s rich pool of artistic talent. From paintings to sculptures, video to photography, weaving and textiles to ceramics and more, there are seasoned artists to honor and emerging artists to be discovered among more than 350 who will open up their studio spaces to the public.

It’s an uncurated free event that allows visitors to get a glimpse of the process and space where artwork is created while engaging directly with its creators. Brooklyn has a long-standing reputation for being a hotbed of creativity and GOS is going to represent its northernmost tip in true Greenpoint fashion—by keepin’ it real—providing an open platform for showcasing the various expressions of our creative community’s imagination and skills.

Tonight, you should swing by the GOS launch party (8-11PM) at Java Studios (252 Java Street), where their gallery and outdoor space will host a night of performance art, live music, exhibitions, street art inspired mural paintings, and video art projections. Plus free booze. It’ll be a soiree not to be missed, full of creative energy and of course good times will be had by all. Artists can sign up with Woodhull Hospital to get free healthcare in exchange for volunteer work. And there’ll be Hungarian wine by Palinkerie, craft beer by local brewery Greenpoint Beer & Ale, and chips provided by Kettle Brand. RSVP to the launch party here. All are welcome!

The heart of the festivities—the artist open studios—will happen from 12-6PM on Saturday (4/30) and Sunday (5/1). Artists will open up their doors to show finished work alongside work-in-progress.

Sunday night will wind down the party in Greenpoint’s charming French-Catalonian restaurant Cassette on Sunday (5/1) evening from 6-8PM, where there will be free food and a drink for participating artists. Everyone is welcome! RSVP here.
