Happy New Year! It’s supposed to be a cold weekend, but I have two shows in mind for which you should consider braving the elements.
Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen is a recording studio that has put out tons of great albums from many awesome local bands. This tight-knit collective of musicians and friends also regularly performs at Muchmore’s. Put those two facts together and you get the Jean Jackets‘ record release show tonight starting at 8:00 (doors at 7:00). For $4, you can see this band as they play from their brand new second album Field Theory Blues, plus two of my favorites, The Great American Novel and Oh! My Blackbird, as well as the sure to be good Dr. Skinnybones and Norwood. More information here.
Saturday, Magik Markers will roll into town to play Union Pool. Guess what? It’s another record release show. Their new album is called Surrender to the Fantasy. I dig the track “Mirrorless,” check out the video below. The show starts at 9:00, costs $10, and also includes Degreaser and Lushes.
