Illustrious Alabaster

Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Our featured Holiday Market vendor Alabaster wanted to be a cartoonist and a crafter. Now that she is all grown up she says, “I never wanted to compromise, so here I am, still doing it!”

Alabaster’s best sellers are her books (pictured at top). The first edition of 200 Mimis sold out in 3 months.

She proudly keeps her book and craft production super local in Ridgewood:

Everything I do is 100% handmade in my lovely neighborhood of Ridgewood. I screen print the covers to my books on Troutman St, I photocopy the insides on Myrtle Ave, and do everything else in my home on Forest Ave. Although they are handmade, they are also durable and functional. The comics are as exciting to read as to look at. My family lived or worked in Greenpoint, Bushwick, and Ridgewood two generations ago, and I’m proud to call these neighborhoods home in 2013.
