Huevos Rancheros Brunch at Greenpoint Heights

Julia, owner of Greenpoint Heights (278 Nassau Ave), over on “this side” of McGuinness, invited me to try brunch recently.

I selfishly schedule meetings at Greenpoint Heights because it is around the block from my apartment and I only need to give myself 5 min to be on time. Whenever anyone comes for the first time, they always say, “This place is great! I didn’t know this was here!” Well now you know.

Aside from a great bar with a huge backyard equipped with a marble cherub fountain and a smoker, they serve a full menu for dinnertime with lots of taco options. I personally love the chicken enchiladas and the delicious raw kale salad with smoked gouda.

Greenpoint Heights also serves brunch on the weekends starting at 11am.

I sometimes wonder if I ever really need to leave Greenpoint. Now I wonder if I ever need to leave this side of McGuinness! We have it all, the best park, amazing coffee shops and a great bar serving tasty food.

Jon and I headed over on Labor Day weekend, when it was unsurprisingly quiet. I love holiday weekends in NY when everyone leaves town.

Jon got the Huevos Rancheros with a Bloody Mary and I tried the Breakfast Tacos with a Lemonade cocktail spiked with whisky. I spent the entiring time slurping down Jon’s Bloody Mary and eating all his Huevos Rancheros, since I distinctly remember agreeing to “share” both plates.

The Breakfast Tacos and the Lemonade were both really delicious, but the Huevos Rancheros and the Bloody Mary took the cake. The Bloody Mary was all you want from a Bloody Mary and the Huevos Rancheros were perfect: Crispy tortillas, white cheddar, black beans, salsa verde, guacamole and mango salsa with two sunny side up eggs. The mango salsa sweetened it up nicely to complement the heat, which didn’t take over the dish. Huevos rancheros is all about the texture and Greenpoint Heights nailed it, the tortillas stay crispy even with the perfectly runny sunny side up egg dripping all over it.

Everyone needs a go-to Huevos Rancheros spot right around the block, right?

Have you tried the brunch at Greenpoint Heights yet? What is your favorite dish?

Where is your go-to Huevos Rancheros spot?
